Can Israel be a Jewish state?

Great piece from Elliot Abrams on the consistent refusal of Arab leaders to recognize Israel as a Jewish state:

… the argument is that if Israel is a “Jewish state” it will certainly, unavoidably, necessarily discriminate against non-Jews. The problem with this debating point is that those who use it apply it only to Israel; none ever voices any concern about states based on Islam and discriminating in favor of Muslims.

Read the whole thing. In this, as in so many other instances, Israel is held to a different standard than the rest of the world. Just more proof that it’s Arab instransigence — not the unwillingness of Israel to compromise — that is the impediment to peace in the Middle East.

The Arabs are not against naming Israel as a Jewish state but against the Jews stealinf the land from the Palestinians. Palestine is the home for the Palestinians NOT JEWS. If you all like them so much why don’t you take them ALL from Palestine and looking after them in your own countries. The Middle East will be much much happier place.

I think this is the place where God does intervene in the lives of men and nations. I don’t believe there’s an enemy strong enough to make that change or well intentioned Jews or Christians that would compromise all and make that change. What God has already established will not change. The promises of God are eternal.

What have the evil enemies of Israel ever done for the good of mankind?.They have never invented anything, offered good intentions, created medicinal hope for the sick or to live in peace and harmony with it’s neighbors. Before they discovered oil, which is a natural resourse, their only mode of income was to rob and kill innocents[nothing has changed there].They have never manufactured anything. They have proven throughout the centuries that they are really not good for anything and the good of the world has to keep mindfull that the one and only true GOD has put them on this earth to test our resolve against the wicked.

What a lot of hogwash and so stupid. Ignorance of history is an evil and shame. The Arabic civilisation had contributed to every field in human knowledge from medicine to mathematics and science. Do yourself a favour: read about the Arabic culture without bias. Do not advertise your shameful ignorance.

I also believe that jews are a chosen people living in the chosen land, however, John’s comment is hateful and unedifying. I’m sure that, like many of us, you do not agree with the terroism or persecution of Jews, but you must not treat an entire race of people like they do not bare the image of God. They have created, invented, and added to society. Muslims and Christians alike have born evil into the world (the crusades, etc). Treat your fellow man with enough respect to withhold from saying that they have never amounted to anything or aren’t good for anything. Mercy and justice can still abide together.

To be fair, John, they did contribute a lot at one time. For example, we got our mathematical concept of zeros from them. (tens, hundreds, etc.- not sure where they got it, but they were doing it while we were still kepping records on the “exchequer”). It is their hatred of and attacks on Israel that have reduced them to the state you describe.

I don’t so much see Muslims as evil as their religion is evil. The language of destruction is not just hate, but contempt. If our focus is that the people are evil, it is easy to fall into the trap of thinking just as they do- the “glass factory” mentality (i.e. mass murder on a nuclear scale).

It was contempt, not hatred, that primarily fueled Nazi atrocities. In fact, doctors were key players in planning, supervising and carrying out those murdrouse plans with a warped sense of compassion for their victims.

Personally, I pray for them. I figure every converted terrorist is one less in Satans army.

      Shalom

WHATEVER man says or does not say can NEVER alter the fact that the Jews are GOD’s chosen people. They always have been and always will be. HE made the covernant which established the boundary of the land HE gave HIS people. They may never possess in our time but they will cerainly possess it in GOD’s own time and according to HIS plan and GOD help anyone who gets in the way. HE has instructing us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem and that is what I plan to do. Peace will come, in GOD’s own time.

I wholly disagree with previous post. The same concept of democracy stands on separation between politics and religion. The same origin of US came from a need of religious freedom of Pilgrim Fathers.th

It is so amazing how the world and even now how the present administration (US) has turned their backs on Israel. The press is the worse. They see terrorist kill inocent men, women and children of Israel and if they even respond to it is maybe one or two sentences on TV or hidden on the last pages of major newspapers. But, when the great nation of Israel responds to the killings the whole world is screaming in outrage. I have seen over and over God’s Chosen Nation reach out in peace only to have it blow up in their faces. The Obama administraion has turn it’s back on Israel but the citizens of this nation has stood up and shouted their support for Israel. (My whole family included). May God protect His Chosen. One thing I always say, If you are an enemy of God’s Chosen Nation, then you are an enemy of God! May God protect His Chosen Ones, and I pray for your Prime Minister and the whole nation of Israel.
