Hagel’s Wrong On Why US Supports Israel

Photo: Jewish Virtual Library

Despite the claim by defense secretary nominee Chuck Hagel that US support for Israel is a result of a “Jewish lobby” that intimidates people on Capitol Hill – a vile and borderline anti-Semitic slur – Ari Fleischer says the former Nebraska senator has it all wrong. Fleischer hits the nail on the head:

Israel is widely supported by the American people because Israel deserves to be supported. Israel is a lonely democratic ally and a steady friend of the United States in a dangerous and tumultuous region. Their people are like the American people — free, independent, capitalistic and tolerant.

yes, president Obama surrounds himself with evil men who hate Isreal and Christians. I feel he is both muslem and a communist. I was very disapointed in his treatment of Isreals leaders during what should have been a state visit. but the majority of Americans, love Isreal, believe in the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, and support Isreal. Isreal You are in our hearts.

I pray for Israel. Our country is changing before my 70 year old eyes and not for the better. Pray for America also. I guess some things just have to be, the Bible says so.

Israel…I love her and my love is deep and strong. When I was a child a love for her grew in my soul and heart. I became a Christian when I was 7 yrs old and know that the Lord Christ Jesus planted that seed in me. She is in my prayers daily and as the times become even more dangerous for Israel and the US ( the signs that Christ is ever nearing) I am at once fearful and joyful at the same time.I find myself waking in the night with her on my mind and as the day dawns many times praying for Israel is my first action and at moments in the day I am prompted to stop what I am doing and pray for her. As Israel goes, so goes America. As a Country I am horrified at the curse that seems to have fallen on us but as an individual I know the Lord will honor those who stand with Israel. The Jews that voted for bo the first time shocked me but the 2nd time??? Dear Lord how foolish are they. I even read where some said, they dont live there so its none of their business. THAT made me cry. Yes, Israel IS alive and well and will NEVER be destroyed because Christ will descend and defend. Thank you for letting me voice my heart. Praying for the Prime Minister daily. I am believing that our leaders ( who are in control ) are beyond ‘hearing’ and so I have no hope for them..they serve a different master, yet I do pray that the Lord WILL somehow find that voice He needs in DC. Shalom

I love and pray for Israel too and agree with all you’ve stated-EXCEPT…when it comes to our leaders! We are commanded Roberta to pray for ALL in authority over us-that theor hearts will be turned to the LORD! For it is NOT his will for ANY to perish. I do sympathize with you as our leaders have really let us down. Let that be the reason all the more that we should pray for them too! God bless you Roberta-I love your heart for Israel-I feel exactly the same. I have a supernatural love for the Jewish people and Israel!!! Have a blessed day. Remember, when you get angry with thier poor choices-use that energy to pray for them also-I know, not always easy! But, they are being decieved too and there is ALWAYS hope for everyone until the very end. His mercy and love endureth forever!!! Praise the LORD!!! :)

God said to pray for our leaders so there will be peace in our land. We have the word of God and it is true. You can’t kill it, stop it nor deny it. Stand for it and it will stand for us.

the most evil people are running or being put in office by our prez. dont be surprised by their hatred of Israel after all their job is to destroy america. i’ve always known that.at 70yrs i’ve been better educated by just going as far as 8th grade; you look at young adults up to 50yrs young and there is no live in their eyes. they’re dead; its horrible to see our people and nation dying before my eyes. God help us; we’re being poisoned in every way. God bless you for you mag.

I support Israel, I pray for peace in Jerusalem. God is the god of Israel and those who are against Israel wil be cursed, God’s word not mine. These people think that they are on top but soon, very soon they will find out the truth. I they won’t be scoffing

Our Lord Jesus Christ will sort the wheat from the chaff for all. Give and be his follower in love of him and our fellow man; 1 Cor 13….love is the greatest.

"informing, equipping and mobilizing individuals and churches to support the
State of Israel"

Rabbi's Commentary
Faith and Democracy in Israel

Israel is a democratic state and it is a Jewish state. This duality can lead to conflict – as we have seen in recent weeks – but it is one of Israel's unique strengths and a source of pride.
