So, the Vice President of Iran says that Jews are responsible for the international drug trade. He delivered his speech at a UN Conference on Drugs – no, the CONFERENCE wasn’t ON drugs…it was ABOUT drugs. Easy mistake given the topic.
In a New York Times article that, unlike virtually everything else in the Grey Lady, isn’t to be missed, Mohammed Reza Rahimi unleashes a torrent of Jew-hatred that, if it wasn’t so incredibly funny, would be deeply insulting. Sadly, I wasn’t able to track down a transcript, so the Times report is the best we have. Highlights include:
“The Islamic Republic of Iran will pay for anybody who can research and find one single Zionist who is an addict. They do not exist. This is the proof of their involvement in drugs trade.”
[Rahimi] told stories of gynecologists’ killing black babies on the orders of the Zionists and claimed that the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917 was started by Jews, adding that mysteriously no Jews died in that uprising.
The Talmud teaches to “destroy everyone who opposes the Jews.” It further teaches Jews to think they are a superior race. “They think God has created the world so that all other nations can serve them.”
Rahimi is a clown and he deserves to be laughed at rather than taken seriously, but there are two serious points to be made.
First, is that it is clowns like this who suddenly become very serious when in control of significant power…like, say, a nuclear weapon. This guy shouldn’t be anywhere near a nuke, let alone be in command-and-control possession of one (or more).
Second, and most upsetting, is the final line of the Times report, wherein a Western diplomat defended his attendance at the conference by saying, ““If we do not support the United Nations on helping Iran fight drugs, voices like the one of Mr. Rahimi will be the only ones out there.” Newsflash to Ambassador Useful Idiot – Mr. Rahimi is the Vice President of the country. And the President of the country is even worse. These guys aren’t just whackadoodle tenured professors at Tehran University — they are actually in positions of power.
The bigger questions are: Why is the UN sponsoring ANYTHING in Iran other than nuclear facility inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency? Why are Western diplomats traveling to Iran – a country under multiple UN Security Council sanctions resolutions whose leaders have a history of medieval-style Jew-hatred? Let those be the only anti-drug voices in Iran! It’s better than liberal democracies allowing themselves to be used as props. At what point do the world’s democracies come to understand that not everybody is interested in the same positive-sum solutions that our culture strives for?
