Israel Launches “Operation Pillar of Defense” Assault in Gaza

After hundreds of rockets from Palestinian terrorists hit Southern Israel since last weekend, Israel in self-defense has launched what it dubs “Operation Pillar of Defense” in the Gaza Strip. Since the rocket attacks began, three Israeli citizens have been killed and many wounded.

Also this week in Israel in the News:

• Israeli forces have responded to the escalating crisis by striking key military targets, resulting in the killing of Hamas’ top military commander.
• Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to the Gaza attacks by saying no government should tolerate such terrorism.
• In response to the escalating crisis, The Fellowship announced a $2 million emergency aid package, including food, medicine, and other supplies to help people in the line of fire.

This week’s Israel in the News Perspective features The Fellowship’s Jonathan Greenberg on why the United Nations should support Israel in its efforts to protect its citizens from terrorist attacks.

You could not have said it any better. The country of Israel makes the jews around the world safe. Let us not forget the Holocaust only 60 some years ago. If Isael ever fell no jew would be safe

I pray that the shelling into Israel will stop. As a United States citizen, I cannot imagine living under this kind of threat every day. I stand with Israel and its right to defend herself from these unprovoked attacks against her citizens.

Rabbi’s Commentary
Answering His Call, Faithfully and Joyfully

2014 has certainly been a year of struggles. But those challenges have been answered by God, and by His faithful followers. The Fellowship and our generous friends have been able to offer assistance to those who need it most, from the Holy Land to the former Soviet Union, and we look hopefully to the coming year as one of peace, prosperity, and repairing the world.
