As you know, Israel has been under siege for several days and has been fighting back against hundreds of rockets aimed at her citizens. The rocket fire has been going on for years and, today, rockets have struck Tel Aviv for the first time. Yesterday, the Obama Administration released a statement reaffirming Israel’s right to self-defense and last night, at the U.N., U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice did the same.
Now, the United States Senate is considering a resolution that reiterates Israel’s right to self-defense, places the blame squarely on Hamas, and calls on the Administration to continue to stand up for Israel. The resolution is co-authored by Sens. Mark Kirk (R-IL) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY).
Please call your Senators and ask them to cosponsor and support this important resolution!
Calling your Senators is easy (remember: you have TWO so call both)!
FIND your Senators HERE.
CALL the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask for your Senator’s office.
ASK to speak to the Foreign Policy Legislative Assistant (you don’t need to ask for them by name). If that person isn’t available, that’s okay. Leave the message with the person answering the phone.
BRIEFLY explain why you’re calling. USE the talking points below.
ASK the Senator to cosponsor and support the resolution.
THANK the staff person for their time. If they say the Senator is already supporting the resolution, THANK them again (and again)!
CALL the Switchboard again and call your other Senator!
• Hamas is waging an ongoing war against Israel and deliberately targeting Israeli population centers. More than 1 million Israelis live within the U.S.-designated terrorist group’s rocket range.
• Since Saturday, terrorists have hit Israel with more than 350 rockets. Since the beginning of the year, terrorists in Gaza have struck Israel with close to 1000 rockets.
• The Jewish state, like every nation, has the right to self-defense. No other country in the world faces daily rocket attacks against its civilians, nor would any other country tolerate such violence.
• It is imperative that the United States continues to stand with its ally in the Middle East and support Israel’s right to self-defense.
