Obama Second Term: Foreign Policy Challenges

In a follow up to yesterday’s post – and of course, yesterday’s election – we turn to Jonathan Marcus of the BBC, who lays out the major foreign policy challenges for President Obama’s second term.

Marcus outlines what it’s going to look like for Obama in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, the whole of the Middle East, China, North Korea, Russia, and  ungoverned spaces like the Sinai peninsula and areas in Africa:

The US president has not changed and neither has the complex and fragmented world he faces looking out from Washington: a Middle East in crisis; an Asia alarmed, or at the very least, ambivalent about China’s rise; and old powers like Europe less confident about their place in the international system.

America’s own place in the international system is in flux, with a debate raging about relative US decline and what some see as Washington’s weakening influence on both friends and enemies.

Linda is pretty much right on here. General Petraeus told us that he believed it was a major attack about one hour after the incident started in Benghazi. Arrogance for four more years. Remember that the Israelis are God’s Chosen People according to the Bible. If we as a country give up on them, He won’t. Read recent Middle Eastern History since Israel became a nation, especially the 67 War. From Gaza, bombs come in; the Israelis need to retaliate, and only Israel gets the brunt of the blame. Watch the Middle East; our Redemption draweth nigh.

Faith and Democracy in Israel

Israel is a democratic state and it is a Jewish state. This duality can lead to conflict – as we have seen in recent weeks – but it is one of Israel's unique strengths and a source of pride.
