The Gaza Flotilla Incident

On May 31, 2010, six ships calling themselves the "Gaza Freedom Flotilla" attempted to break the Gaza Strip blockade imposed by Israel to prevent the flow of terrorist weapons into the region. Organized by the Free Gaza Movement and the Turkish Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief (IHH), the flotilla contained humanitarian aid, medical supplies, construction materials, and — according to the organizers — "peaceful activists."

Israeli authorities requested to board and inspect the ships and deliver approved items to Gaza via established checkpoints. In the international waters of the Mediterranean Sea, IDF soldiers boarded the first five ships and conducted the inspections peacefully. When they boarded the sixth and largest ship in the flotilla, the Mavi Marmara, activists on board savagely attacked the soldiers with metal pipes, bats, knives, and a gun. In the process of defending themselves, IDF soldiers killed nine IHH members. Seven IDF soldiers were injured.

The event spurred immediate and highly critical responses from international media. Most portrayed the flotilla as a group of peaceful activists out to deliver much-needed aid to a beleaguered population that had long been denied access to essentials like food and medicine by a powerful neighboring state. And they portrayed the incident as a clear case of good vs. evil — the plucky underdog activists paying with their lives for defying the laws of an oppressive and cruel nation.

“Peace Activists”?

Further evidence painted a different picture. Though portrayed as "peace activists," many of those aboard the Mavi Marmara were members of the IHH, which experts say has ties to Hamas, al-Qaeda, and other radical Muslim terrorist groups. These "peace activists" were ready to fight. Chilling videos taken by the IDF and posted on the Internet show Israeli commandos descending by rope from helicopters onto the boat, only to be swarmed by a mob of club and knife-wielding thugs who beat and stabbed them and threw them over the ship’s railing. Given the danger, it should not come as any surprise that the Israelis resorted to lethal force to defend themselves.

And what about the blockade allegedly starving Gaza residents? The fact is, even after the blockade was put into place in early 2009 in an attempt to dry up terrorist weapons supplies, Israel has allowed essentials into Gaza. Last year, more than 700,000 tons of food, medical supplies, and other humanitarian aid entered the strip from Israel, with the total for 2010 standing at over 230,000 tons as of early May. The fact is that Israel has always taken into account the humanitarian needs of Palestinians living in Gaza. The myth of Gazans being starved by Israel is just that — a myth.

Obviously, the Gaza flotilla was less an attempt to help Palestinians than it was to provoke Israel. Sadly, it worked: By putting Israel in a situation where the use of force was inevitable, the organizers of the flotilla stirred a firestorm of condemnation from a world all too ready to judge Israel guilty until proven innocent.

The Aftermath

Israeli authorities rejected demands for a U.N. investigation into the incident, claiming a lack of faith that they would conduct an impartial investigation. Israel conducted a military inquiry of its own, citing "no failure, but mistakes" in the handling of the incident, namely flawed intelligence-gathering and inadequate planning. The report also praised the IDF commandos who took part, underscoring that they were justified in opening fire as a means of self-defense.

Under international pressure, Israel also eased the Gaza blockade in the weeks following the flotilla incident, allowing more consumer goods into the region but maintaining the ban on construction supplies and any sort of weaponry.

While the incident drew harsh criticism of Israel, it also galvanized her supporters. Many world leaders came out in support of Israel’s handling of the Gaza flotilla, reiterating their love and support of Israel in the process. As Israeli blogger Ami Farkas wrote, "Unity is also crucial. Israel is waking up to that fact, and is solidifying her relationships with all the voices around the world that share her values, as well as with those who share her understanding that Israel is the frontline of the global war against terror."

Other flotillas, most notably from Iran and Libya, indicated they would attempt to break the Gaza blockade in the weeks and months following the Gaza flotilla incident. To date, all of them have deteriorated in the planning stages or have been peacefully diverted to other ports.

What do you think?

This is Israels country and they know better than anyone else how to handle, so called good will (Radical Muslim) attempts to defy their authority. Whatever they need to do to protect that sovereignty over Gaza and is up to them, they have the previous (attacks upon them) to prove their point. Not the PA nor any of their terrorist connections, have the right to continually try to sidestep Isreal’s control over their own realstate. Unfortunately, Isreal is totally surrounded by those that want to wipe it off the face of the earth, but God will see to it that it does not happen!!!!!!!!

The verse you quoted, Jer 3:8, “I saw that even though backsliding Isra’el had committed adultery, so that I had sent her away and given her a divorce document, unfaithful Y’hudah her sister was not moved to fear – instead she too went and prostituted herself.” When read in context, this is part of a plea for them to return to the Lord. “9 The ease with which Isra’el prostituted herself defiled the land, as she committed adultery with stones and with logs. 10 Yet in spite of all this, her unfaithful sister Y’hudah has not returned to me wholeheartedly; she only makes a pretense of it,” said ADONAI. 11 Then ADONAI said to me, “Backsliding Isra’el has proved herself more righteous than unfaithful Y’hudah. 12 Go and proclaim these words toward the north: ‘”Return, backsliding Isra’el,” says ADONAI. “I will not frown on you, for I am merciful,” says ADONAI. “I will not bear a grudge forever. 14 “Return, backsliding children,” says ADONAI; “for I am your master. I will take you, one from a city, two from a family, and bring you to Tziyon.” Israel was given that land by God, and we were blessed with our Savior through Israel. God was at times glorified “through” Israel (not by them), and at times His name was shamed by them, and they bore the consequences. A lot like Christians today, when you think about it. But the land there is is given by God to Israel (present tense), and by conquest after the Exodus as well as by PURCHASE in recent history; confirmed in a war for survival (not conquest) and statehood, that land is Israel! Shalom.

Israel didn’t have to repel armed commandos onto the flotilla in the middle of the night, in international waters, no less. that in itself is an act of aggression.

I am a fundamental Christian who lives in the U.S. and it saddens me to see the lack of support for the Nation of Israel that I currently see in our government. I truly believe G_d’s Word when He said He would bless those who bless Israel and curse those who curse Israel. I see us reaping the fallout of faithless leaders in our nation even now. I believe the time of our Lord is very near. Prophecies are falling into place even as I write. I pray for His Sovereign guidance and protection for Israel and for His enlightenment to be revealed to the perverse and faithless leaders of the U.S. I pray for repentance to come to the hearts of those in opposition to the G_d of Abraham for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.

Thomas, Judiasm today is a people, a state and a religion. You don’t have to be a descendant of Abraham to be Jewish. Even in Biblical times, foreigners such as Rahab and her household were adopted into the nation and the faith. And they still keep records, but I’ve been told that since the diaspora they are recorded from the mothers line. The real significance of the destruction of the records and matralineal recording is that it can no longer be proven that a person is a direct descendant of David- a requirement for Messiah. Yeshua Ha’Mashiach has already come- Jesus is Lord! Shalom.

Israel is right to impose a blockade. Time and time again they have had rockets launched at them from Gaza. Numerous other terrorist attacks and ambushes have also occurred. Israel must do everything it can to ensure the safety of her citizens and protect them from those who want to destroy her.

I fully support the Israeli authorities and the actions of the IDF to protect themselves from what was a deliberate and planned attempt to undermine the security of the state of Israel and make the IDF look bad in the eyes of the world media.
I believe that the film that I have seen of the event clearly shows that they acted appropriately at all times.

Seems that twisting the truth around is a growth industry. On Yedda/”what is the Best Religion”, one of the posters post fraudient quotes from the Talmud, and other writings, of from persons who are supposed to be Jewish, but cannot get their “facts” together, as “proof” of his beliefs, then says he is not antisemitic. Only, by his statements, we are not the true Jews.
Could be that the criminals who orgistrated the the May’s events, are of the same illogigal frame of mind; thus we, who open the borders and uphold our end, cannot be doing so, because we are not, in their minds, able to do good. If we cannot find a way to get the societies and governmens to deal with these persons, in a responsible way, we shall have more of the same. Mean time, Israel has to hang tuff. We are going to have this garbage, reguardless, but it can better be handled if we show them there is no slack, and they have to learn to respect the fact, law, and the respectrive faiths of all the people involved.

Remembering the Terror of 9/11, Confronting the Terror of Today

The attacks on 9/11 were a wake-up call to the dangers of Islamist terrorism, and the swift growth of terrorist groups such as the Islamic State should wake us up to a current threat that demands not just our vigilance, but also our unity.
